| Abstract: | Nigeria is a religiously diverse country and due to its large population has the highest absolute number of female genital mutilation worldwide, accounting for about one-quarter of the estimated 115-130 million circumcised women in the world. All effort to end female genital mutilation in Nigeria intensified in recent decades because of the rising awareness that such practice is an act of extreme torture posing a great risk on the reproductive and sexual health of girls and women. |
