| Abstract: | This research examined itself with the contributions of two literary artists to the lives and experiences of people in the Nigerian society, especially on the concept of utopianism and the various factors hampering its fulfillment in the dystopian Nigerian society. This is because the literary artists is seen as a committed person who uses his work to advocate for an egalitarian society, it satirizes the evils of corruption, exploitation and oppression; and push the proletariats into a struggle towards liberation from all the forces that undermine their existence. The paper will make specific emphasis on Adaobi Nwaubani's I Do Not Come To You By Chance and Festus Iyayi’s Violence, that both advocate for a better life through different means. |
| Description: | This chapter examines instances of utopia and utopian drive in the novel I Do Not
Come To You By Chance. It is of importance to state clearly that the novel deals
basically with the various responses to citizens of a failed society. One should also note that human beings seem to have a clear picture of what a fair life should be, beyond the three basic needs (food, cloth and shelter), there are cravings, desires and wants which culminates into what we may call “the good life” characterized by abundance of goodies and less hardship. |
